Martin MacNeill to appeal murder conviction in wife’s death

Martin MacNeill — sentenced earlier this month to prison for up to life over his wife’s murder — on Monday filed a notice that he plans to take his case to the Utah Court of Appeals.

 On Sept. 19, a 4th District Court judge sentenced MacNeill, 58, to spend 15 years to life in prison for murdering his wife, Michele MacNeill, plus another one to 15 years in prison for obstruction of justice.


Child molester has conviction overturned

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind.--- It only took one day to convict him, but now the Indiana Supreme Court has ruled an Elkhart County man's child molestation conviction be overturned.

The court said that 43-year-old Scott Logan’s case took too long to go to trial.

CHARLESTON, SC - A woman who was extradited from Australia on charges of abducting her infant daughter from South Carolina 20 years ago has pleaded not guilty in her first court appearance.

 Fifty-four-year-old Dorothy Lee Barnett entered the plea Monday before U.S. Magistrate Bristow Marchant. Her attorney requested a bond hearing be delayed.

(CNN) -- A manhunt for a 33-year-old sought in the disappearance of an Arkansas real estate agent ended with his arrest Monday, police say.

 The Little Rock Police Department arrested Arron Lewis, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, after an arrest warrant issued Sunday said he was charged with kidnapping. The warrant provided no other details, but Lt. Carl Minden with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office said Lewis was a suspect in the disappearance of Beverly Carter.

Montana teacher -- initially given 31 days in rape of student -- now gets 10 years

Billings, Montana (CNN) -- Fighting back tears, Auliea Hanlon sat on the witness stand in a Montana courtroom, just feet away from the man who pleaded guilty to raping her 14-year-old daughter -- and initially received a sentence that required him to serve just 31 days in prison.

 "Here we are -- six, seven years later, still waiting for justice," she said, according to video of the sentencing from CNN affiliate KTVQ. "He knew what he was doing. He knew what was going to happen to her."


Violent assault ruled out in death of Utah family

SPRINGVILLE, Utah (AP) — A preliminary autopsy has ruled out any violent assault in the deaths of five Utah family members including three children, police said Sunday.

 There was no evidence of stabbing or gunshot wounds or other visible injuries to the five found dead Saturday night in their home in Springville, about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City, investigators said.

Police have arrested and charged Terrence Robert Proctor, 37, of Hyattsville for the March 2013 targeted attack and murder of Davidsonville resident Nicole Burgess.

Autopsy for child abuse victim Kilah Davenport cites pneumonia, complications from assault

An autopsy report released Thursday on 4-year-old child abuse victim Kilah Davenport showed that the girl died in March of pneumonia due to complications of head injuries from the assault by her stepfather.

Diabetes also contributed to her death, according to the report.

Suspect in custody in real estate agent's disappearance

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – The man wanted in connection with the disappearance of a central Arkansas realtor is in custody.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office says 33-year-old Arron Michael Lewis in custody. He was apprehended by the Little Rock Police Department Monday morning at Pleasant Pointe Apartments at 1602 Green Mountain Drive around 10 a.m. No other details about the arrest have been released.


Doctor found guilty of poisoning ex-lover sentenced to 10 years

HOUSTON - A jury has sentenced Dr. Ana Gonzalez-Angulo, who was found guilty of poisoning her ex-lover, to 10 years in prison.

Jurors handed down a guilty verdict Friday against Dr. Ana Gonzalez-Angulo, who poisoned Dr. George Blumenschein’s coffee in January 2013. He has permanent kidney damage and health problems caused by ethylene glycol, a chemical found in antifreeze.

Homelessness increases among US schoolchildren

The number of homeless US schoolchildren is rising.

Education Department statistics released Monday say 1.3 million homeless children were enrolled in US schools in the 2012-13 school year — an 8 percent increase from the previous school year.

 “We call this consistent,” said Dr. Gregory Wanger, as he held up the tape dispenser with a hand grip. “In other words, we've identified areas on this weapon that could have produced the injury.”

Utah police this week released the emotional audio of a 911 call that two teenage girls made minutes after they escaped a terrifying kidnapping.

The teens told police they were approached by a red SUV, carrying two men and a woman, who offered the teens a ride. When the teens declined, they were forced into the SUV at knifepoint.

HILLTOP, Ohio - A child seeks refuge inside her home from a man she says tried to grab her and then break into her house.

The 10-year-old girl told her mother the man was a stranger. It happened in the middle of the afternoon in the 600 block of South Harris Avenue on the Hilltop on Sunday on a street where a surveillance camera keeps constant watch.
