According to University of Texas police, 36-year-old Dorisella Johnyle Murphy had taken her 1-year-old son to a pediatrician’s office in the UT Professional Building on Monday.

 While inside the office, the infant started crying. When the infant would not quiet down, witnesses said Murphy hit him. A witness called police.


Police: Maine woman burned 4-year-old daughter

STRATTON, Maine (AP) -- The Franklin County Sheriff's Department says a Maine mom burned her 4-year-old daughter with a wood-engraving tool as punishment.

 Detectives charged 39-year-old Jessica LaPlante of Stratton with assault after an investigation that started when the girl's father filed a complaint with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

Pontiac— A 78-year-old Waterford Township woman testified Wednesday her son handcuffed her inside their garage for nearly four hours, trying to kill her with carbon monoxide fumes from a truck.

 Adam D. Lutz, 46, is charged with assault with intent to murder, attempted murder, torture and unlawful imprisonment in the Aug. 26, 2013, incident on Coseyburn Road where he lived with his mother, Gloriann Lutz.

Judge grants Hernandez bid to suppress evidence

A judge has granted a request by former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez to suppress evidence from two cellphones and three iPads taken from his home in a search during a 2013 murder investigation.

 Bristol Superior Court Judge E. Susan Garsh ruled Tuesday that police did not specifically list those items in a search warrant for Hernandez's home in North Attleborough on June 18, 2013.

The court concluded that the Commonwealth was "not entitled to the fruits of the seizure of the iPhone and Blackberry Bold," along with an Apple iPad 16GB tablet and two Apple iPad mini tablets.

Father, Girlfriend Charged In Boy’s Mauling Death ( Javon Dade Jr )

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Two people have been arrested and charged in connection to the mauling death of a child in Goulds.

 Four year old Javon Dade Jr. was attacked and killed by his father’s dog, or dogs, on Wednesday, August 13th, in the yard of his father’s home on SW 123rd Avenue about a block south of SW 228th Street.


Former foster mom pleads guilty to molesting children

A former Hamilton County foster mom pleaded guilty Friday to molesting children in her care and was immediately sentenced to seven years in prison.

 Barbara Brooks, 64, pleaded guilty to four counts of rape before Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Martin.

SANTA ANA, Calif. - A former Marine charged Tuesday with murder after the body of his alleged lover was found in an abandoned California mine shaft had been looking into how to dispose of a human body, a sheriff's investigator said.

 Christopher Lee, 24, admitted conducting Internet searches on human body disposal, and a witness told detectives that Lee asked him "what was the best way to dispose of a human body," a sheriff's investigator wrote in a document filed in San Bernardino County Superior Court in support of an arrest warrant.


Deputies: Man lashed 6-year-old boy with weed-whacker

Montrell Brundidge, 25, of Deltona, was arrested Monday for aggravated child abuse.

Deputies were called to the home Monday, where the boy told them he suffered injuries to his left leg and ankle area from a weed-whacker, according to a report.

Report: Suspects in Bali "suitcase murder" on suicide watch

BALI, Indonesia - A Chicago woman and her boyfriend - who are accused of killing the woman's mother on the Indonesia resort island of Bali - were placed on suicide watch in jail, police say, according to Reuters.

Bali police spokesman Hery Wiyanto said Heather Mack, 19, and Tommy Schaefer, 21, were depressed and their mental state is being checked every day, according to the news outlet.


Judge delays start of Arias penalty-phase retrial

PHOENIX — An Arizona judge on Wednesday granted Jodi Arias' motion to delay the start of her planned Sept. 8 penalty phase retrial. Arias briefly addressed the judge Wednesday morning before the courtroom was closed to the media and public.

BOSTON (AP) — A college friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev plans to plead guilty to impeding the investigation into the deadly attack, his lawyer said Wednesday.

 Dias Kadyrbayev, 20, is accused of removing a backpack containing emptied-out fireworks from Tsarnaev's dorm room after realizing he was suspected of carrying out the 2013 attack with his brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev.


Bibb judge blasts child molester, tells her of ‘special place in hell’

Searchers discovered the body of missing pregnant Marine wife Erin Corwin on Aug. 16 in a 140-foot mine shaft on Bureau of Land Management land in the Mojave Desert, law enforcement officials announced Monday.

 Dental records were needed to confirm Corwin's identity. An autopsy conducted Monday morning concluded the manner of death to be homicide, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon.

CONWAY, N.H. - The New Hampshire teenager who returned nine months after she vanished on the way home from school was violently abducted by a stranger and "suffered numerous acts of unspeakable violence" for many months, her lawyers said in a statement.

 The three lawyers put out a statement Tuesday on behalf of Abigail Hernandez and her mother. It was featured on the "Bring Abby Home" website created after the 14-year-old disappeared Oct. 9 on her way home from school in Conway, a small tourist town in northeastern New Hampshire.

(AP) - Protests in the St. Louis suburb rocked by racial unrest since a white police officer shot an unarmed black teenager to death turned violent Wednesday night, with some people lobbing Molotov cocktails and other objects at police who responded with smoke bombs and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

 Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson, who has been the public face of the city torn by Saturday's death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, told reporters earlier in the day that the St. Louis County investigation of the shooting could take weeks to complete.

FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) -- A third indictment has expanded the criminal case accusing an 18-year-old San Tan Valley man of sexual assaults and other sex crimes.

 The Pinal County Attorney's Office on Wednesday announced that a third indictment was issued Aug. 6 against Tyler Kost of San Tan Valley, charging him with one count each of attempted sexual assault and attempted child molestation of a victim under the age of 15.

Missing Cowlitz County baby now in custody of protective services

LONGVIEW, Wash. -- Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputies say a 1-year-old baby they say was being hidden from authorities by its mother is now in the custody of protective services.

They say the baby of 30-year-old Christina Char Moore was dropped off at the home of a family friend by an unknown woman a little before 3 p.m. Wednesday. The baby was then turned over to child protective services.
