RALEIGH—A woman charged alongside her newlywed husband in the murder of a man they say they lured through Craigslist told a Pennsylvania newspaper she dumped a body near Raleigh.

Miranda Barbour, 19, who once lived in Harnett County, told the Daily Item in her most recent interview that she dumped a body near Interstate-95 but gave the paper no further details.

Happy Valley standoff leads to murder investigation


HAPPY VALLEY, OR (KPTV) - Deputies are investigating a deadly stabbing at the Easton Ridge Apartment complex in Happy Valley after a fight broke out at a party, according to Lt. Robert Wurpes of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses called 911 after a party-goer was stabbed shortly before midnight Sunday. Paramedics treated the man on the scene, but he died. His name has not been released.


Greenville Mom Accused Of Dragging Son, Hitting Him With Belt

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Greenville Police arrested a woman who they say dragged her five-year old child down stairs causing injuries to the boy.

 Alyssa Lynne Ferguson, 23, is charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

The arrest warrant states Ferguson dragged the boy down carpeted stairs at a home on Pointer Lane around March 28.

SUNBURY - Northumberland County withdrew its subpeonas for a Daily Item reporter who interviewed a murder suspect in the Northumberland County Prison, where Miranda Barbour confessed to killing at least 22 people.

Northumberland County District Attorney Tony Rosini announced his office was withdrawing the subpeonas for Francis Scarcella, because his office was able to locate a new witness who could provide the same information as Scarcella, which would mean the state could not pass the test to compel a reporter to testify.


Amanda Hein enters guilty plea to murdering newborn son at Starters Pub

Police say Hein, 27, attended a pay-per-view wrestling event with friends Aug. 12 at the since-shuttered Starters Pub in Lower Saucon Township. Hein was nine months pregnant at the time and went into labor during the event, police said, though her friends were unaware that she was pregnant.

Hein excused herself to the ladies room, where she gave birth to a son, police said. Authorities have said the baby was healthy and that Hein wrapped him in a plastic garbage bag and placed him in the water tank of one of the toilets. She returned to her concerned friends after about 40 minutes but did not tell them what happened, police said.

Security guard charged with attempted murder of two ALF residents

BROOKSVILLE -- A part-time security guard at the Atria at Evergreen Woods in Brooksville is accused of trying to kill two residents there.

 Deputies said early Thursday morning, 22-year-old Brian Christopher Murphy, who was not on duty at the time, broke into the building before being spotted by a nurse who alerted security.

Relisha Rudd’s absences piled up at Daniel A. Payne Elementary School, topping 30 days this year before someone notified the D.C. Child and Family Service Agency on March 13.

But it took an additional six days before the city agency took action. By then, Relisha, 8, had gone missing.

 Police believe Kahlil Malik Tatum, 51, a janitor at the homeless shelter at the old D.C. General Hospital, where Relisha lived, killed his wife and now has the girl. They are looking for them up and down the East Coast.

 Brandon Goode, 18, and Alexandria Hollinghurst, 17, both of Davenport, were found Saturday morning near the spot where Robert German, 31, was shot along Conroy-Windermere Road.

The suspects appeared to have died of gunshot wounds from an apparent suicide, but the official ruling will be made by the medical examiner.

Police say the suspects then fled the area by boarding a local bus. Surveillance video was released on Monday and shows the suspects are a gang of teenage girls thought by police to be between the ages of 16 and 17.
