BERESFORD, S.D. | It came out of nowhere. Forty-two years after two Vermillion, S.D., teens disappeared, a car matching the description of the one they were driving was found in a rural Beresford creek in September.
The break in the case is the Journal’s No. 4 story of 2013.
When crews began excavating the area on Sept. 24, the day after the discovery, authorities announced human remains were found in what turned out to be a 1960 Studebaker Lark.
