MESA COUNTY, Colo.- The father of Paige Birgfeld continues to ask county officials why his daughter’s remains have not been returned to the family, after roughly a year-and-a-half.

In a letter to County Coroner Dean Havlik, Frank Birgfeld claims standard protocol for conducting an autopsy was abandoned in this case.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. - A woman accused of killing her 13-year-old daughter also tried to poison her three younger children and ex-husband in a Christmas Day rampage, police say.

Connie Villa, 35, was arrested Sunday after she was released from Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, where she was being treated for what police believe were self-inflicted stab wounds, according to Officer Thomas Anderson, a Casa Grande Police Department spokesman.

Her 13-year-old daughter, Aniarael Macias, was found dead in the bathroom of the family's apartment Wednesday after Adam Villa, 33, called 911 to report he had been stabbed and was driving to the hospital, Anderson said.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WAAY) - The FBI is pleading with the public for more clues, no matter how significant, to help find a missing west Michigan doctor who has ties to north Alabama.

Teleka Patrick was last seen Dec. 5 in Kalamazoo, when she attempted to get a hotel room at a Radisson hotel five minutes from her home and miles from the Borgess Medical Center where she worked.

"She was concerned enough about her safety that she elected to go anonymously to a hotel," Carl Clatterbuck, a private investigator for Patrick's family, told ABC News. "That suggests to me that she is trying to avoid something or someone."

Police confirm skeletal remains found over the weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina are human. South Carolina police say the remains were found Saturday scattered across a wooded area. They say this is about six miles from where Chili teen Brittanee Drexel was last seen.

Drexel was 17 when she disappeared on April 25, 2009 while on spring break there. Investigators say it appears the remains had been there for years and believe they could have been moved around by an animal.

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) — Attorneys for the King of Prussia, Pa. man charged with murdering a ten-month-old infant and her grandmother last year were once again in Montgomery County Court today, this time fighting to prevent a jury from seeing some key pieces of prosecution evidence.

During Raghu Yandamuri’s preliminary hearing, defense attorney Steve Heckman labeled a videotaped confession by his client “damaging.” Heckman is now arguing to have that video suppressed, to keep it away from a jury should the case go to trial.

On Monday morning the 23-year-old suspect appeared in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court, where the case was postponed to January 7.

According to reports, angry community members tried to break down a gate at the court on Monday morning and confronted police vans.

The uncle has allegedly confessed to strangling Jasmine Pretorius and then stuffing her body under his bed.

DENVER - It has almost been a year since a pregnant woman from Denver disappeared while visiting her boyfriend in Pueblo.

Kelsie Schelling was last seen on Feb. 4, 2013. Since then, no one has seen or heard from the 22-year-old.

According to police, Schelling's boyfriend, Dohnte Lucas, asked her to drive down from Denver to Pueblo so the two could discuss the pregnancy.

Police say Lucas was the last person to talk to or see Schelling. Schelling's vehicle was discovered 10 days after her disappearance in a parking lot at a hospital in Pueblo. No one from the hospital had records showing Schelling visited them.

FITCHBURG, Mass. (AP) — Family and friends of a missing 5-year-old Massachusetts boy searched his neighborhood for a second straight weekend but found no clues.

About 30 people returned to Fitchburg, about 45 miles west of Boston, on Saturday to look for Jeremiah Oliver. He disappeared Sept. 14 and is feared dead.

Relatives and friends gathered Saturday night for a prayer vigil in New Britain, Conn., where Jeremiah's father, Jose Oliver, lives. He says he's not giving up hope that his son is OK.

The murder of Jasmin Pretorius sparked outrage on social media sites, with many calling for the death penalty to be reinstated for merciless child rapists and killers.

The man who allegedly initiated the search for the pre-schooler soon after she “disappeared” early on Saturday, led police, Pink Ladies, residents and other search volunteers on a wild goose chase for hours, knowing her little body was squashed in under his bed.

The change in attorneys may lead to more delays in the case arising from the slaying of Brittany Killgore, 22. Vista Superior Court Judge K. Michael Kirkman approved the changes this month.

(AP) — Connecticut police released thousands of pages Friday from their investigation into the Newtown massacre, providing the most detailed and disturbing picture yet of the rampage and Adam Lanza's fascination with murder, while also depicting school employees' brave and clearheaded attempts to protect the children.

Among the details: More than a dozen bodies, mostly children, were discovered packed "like sardines" in a bathroom where they had hidden. And the horrors encountered inside the school were so great that when police sent in paramedics, they tried to select ones capable of handling what they were about to witness.

"This will be the worst day of your life," police Sgt. William Cario warned one.

The father of Jeremiah Oliver, the 5-year-old Fitchburg boy missing since September, has said it again and again: He is fighting for his kids.

Jose Oliver, 41, of New Britain, Conn., said that until this week, he had not seen any of his three young children since their mother, Elsa Oliver, moved out of his Worcester apartment at 15 Mendon St. some time in late 2011 or early 2012.

"I couldn't be there (for them)…she never answered her phone," he said to a horde of reporters and cameramen during a recent vigil in front of that house.

FITCHBURG — The search for 5-year-old Jeremiah Oliver continued Saturday morning in the wooded areas around the Meadowbrook Village apartment complex and the playground near the state pool.

The child has been missing since September and this weekend's search is the second by family members and volunteers.

Elsa Oliver, Jeremiah's mother, and her boyfriend, Alberto L. Sierra Jr., are being held on charges related to the child's disappearance. The case is being treated as a possible homicide.

KALAMAZOO, MI – In a statement issued late Thursday, Teleka Patrick’s parents said they are perplexed by YouTube videos that surfaced this week of the missing Kalamazoo doctor speaking and singing to an apparent love interest.

“Their relevance to her disappearance remains a mystery,” Mattahais and Irene Patrick said in the statement, which was e-mailed to the Kalamazoo Gazette at 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

“These videos have led to more questions than answers. To our knowledge, Teleka was not in a romantic relationship and it is unclear to whom she is making reference in the videos.”

Scotland Yard have now concluded that the key sighting of a suspect carrying a child at around 9.15pm was, in fact, a sighting of an innocent dad.

This has changed the entire timeline of the incident and has opened up crucial new lines of enquiry.

Questions will be asked as to why the relevance of the information was not recognised earlier.

While there may have been an oversight by Leicestershire Police, there are two things we should remember.

DURHAM (WTVD) -- There will be a slight delay in the retrial of a Durham man accused of killing his wife more than eight years ago.

Attorneys on both sides have agreed to push back the trial date for Raven Abaroa, whose trial was originally set for next month.

It's now on the calendar for Feb. 17.

In June, Abaroa rejected a plea deal that would have had him plead guilty to second degree murder charges.

Abaroa maintains his innocence, denying he fatally stabbed his pregnant wife, 25-year-old Janet, in their Durham home in April 2005.

Jodi Arias was convicted of murdering her one-time boyfriend Travis Alexander, but the sentencing phase ended with the jury failing to reach a unanimous decision about whether Arias should go to jail for life or get the death penalty.

Prosecutors had the option of taking the death penalty off the table, meaning Arias could have spent her life in prison but also could have been eligible for release in 25 years, depending on the judge’s decision.

Police officers from as far away as Schiller Park and Lake Zurich were among a reported 125 personnel from a Northern Illinois Police Alarm System alert squad who participated in the late August search for 5-month-old Joshua Summeries along with nationally recognized and specially trained cadaver search dogs, the FBI and volunteer members of the Illinois and Wisconsin National Guard.

A Myrtle Beach father has added $9,000 to the reward for his missing daughter -- the same day a new organized search started and a week after the first search was conducted for her near the Waccamaw River in Socastee.

The reward is now up to $20,000 for Heather Elvis, age 20, who was last heard from on Dec. 17 and whose abandoned car was found on Dec. 19 near Peachtree Landing in Socastee.

Terry Elvis, Heather's father, told WBTW that he has personally added the extra money to the reward.

The biological mother of missing teenager Erica Lynn Parsons said she felt numb after hearing dogs detected the possible presence of human remains during two searches at a storage building in southern Rowan County.

Her worst fear, Carolyn Parsons said, is that Erica is not alive.

“At the same time, if it is her, at least she’s not suffering anymore,” she said.

A Mathews mother who stabbed her two children to death in 2007 is still seeking post-conviction relief from her life sentence, Lafourche Parish District Attorney Cam Morvant said.

Amy Hebert filed for post-conviction relief, separate from the appeal process, in April.

According to state law, a post-conviction relief case can only raise points limited to “newly discovered evidence, errors, changing law or ineffectiveness of counsel, or other issues in the interest of the justice.”

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Private Investigator Carl Clatterbuck was hired by the family of Kalamazoo doctor Teleka Patrick family to help search for the missing 30-year-old doctor.

He says Teleka was in a “heightened sense of agitation” before disappearing and is now searching for answers about her state of mind.

Teleka deleted her Twitter account, but videos she appears to have posted on a site called Twicsy through her Twitter still remain.

In the videos, Clatterbuck sees what he describes as “disturbing” behavior. He tells us family says that is not normal behavior for Teleka.

The rape, strangulation and murder happened in Smithville, Ohio on Saturday, Dec. 14. Nine-year-old Reann Murphy was reported missing from the trailer park where she lived with her mother in a 911 call. Today, Jerrod Metsker, 24, was arraigned in court and pleaded not guilty. Jerrod is accused of the rape, strangulation and killing, and then dumping Reann Murphy’s body in the trash. Jerrod Metsker is also the same person who made the original 911 call.

Jerrod Metsker was the last person to be seen with Reann Murphy. They were building a snow man. Metsker is variously described as mentally challenged and mentally deficient. In fact, he was commonly seen to be playing with the children in the trailer park as if he was one of them.

Woman's body found 20 years ago finally identified through DNA

The Ohio Attorney General says the body of a woman found nearly 20 years ago has been identified through DNA.

Attorney General Mike DeWine says the identification of the Youngstown woman was made with a Bureau of Criminal Investigation program that matches DNA from family members of missing people with DNA from unidentified remains.

DeWine says the remains of the woman were identified this month as 35-year-old Jacqueline Rowe, whose body was found in Youngstown in December 1996 after she disappeared earlier that year.

A boy from Jefferson City and the man from St. Louis who is charged with kidnapping him were found dead in southeastern Missouri. Police are investigating the deaths as murder-suicide.

The bodies of Markell Beasley, 6, and Demetrius Beasley, 40, were found on Tuesday night at a home in Cape Girardeau. Police said both had been shot.

Demetrius Beasley, who was not Markell's biological father, was charged earlier Tuesday with kidnapping.

Markell's mother told police she let her son travel to St. Louis from Jefferson City on Saturday for a Christmas gathering with Demetrius Beasley's family. The mother said she later learned there was no gathering and Beasley did not intend to return Markell. The mother and Beasley had a previous relationship.

Joann said the day leading up to her daughter's death, which she described as a perfect day of Alexis helping her clean around the house, quickly turned into a horrific night she will never forget.

"My whole world died, because she was my only daughter and she was my baby child," Joann said. "I don't know how I am going to go on without her."

WOOSTER, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio man has pleaded not guilty in the rape and strangulation of a 9-year-old girl found dead in a trash bin at the trailer park where they were neighbors.

A court-appointed attorney entered the pleas Thursday for Jerrod Metsker in Wayne County court in Wooster.

A grand jury had indicted the 24-year-old Metsker on charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping and rape.

The Ohio man suspected in the death of 9-year-old Reann Murphy is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, CBS News reported.

Jerrod Metsker, 24, faces charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping, and rape.

Just a few hours after Murphy was declared missing on Dec. 15, her body was discovered in a trash can in the trailer park where both Metsker and the Murphy family lived.

The adoptive mother of missing teen Erica Parsons is reacting to news that a cadaver dog alerted to the possible presence of human remains while searching for clues in the case of missing Rowan County teen.

In an email to WBTV, Casey Parsons said "This is so crazy. This is why no one has found Erica, because no one is searching for an "alive" Erica."

Erica Parsons is the teenager who was first reported missing in late July by her adoptive brother, although her adoptive family hadn't seen her since 20-11.

Her adoptive parents insist she went to live with her biological grandmother, although investigators say that woman does not exist.

The cadaver dogs made the discovery in October and November at a property owned by Erica's adoptive grandfather.

Drew Peterson is expected to formally challenge his conviction next month — and his attorneys apparently have plenty to say about it.

Peterson's lawyers recently submitted their third request for permission to exceed the 50-page limit imposed on appeal briefs in Illinois — only to be swiftly denied by the 3rd District Appellate Court for the third time.

In a motion filed this month, Peterson's attorneys said his case has generated more than 11,000 pages of court records, including 3,000 pages stemming from the landmark hearsay hearing held two years before his murder trial. The trial transcript contains more than 5,000 pages, according to the filing.

The body of a four-year-old boy who went missing from his bed in northern New South Wales has been found in a river near the home.

Connor Elliott Graham was noticed missing just after 7:00am AEDT at Chatsworth Island, inland from Yamba and about 50 kilometres north of Grafton.

Police say the boy's body was discovered just after 4:00pm in the Clarence River, which surrounds the village on all sides.

FITCHBURG, Massachusetts — The mother of a missing 5-year-old boy did nothing to protect her son from abuse, a Massachusetts prosecutor has told a judge.

Jeremiah Oliver, of Fitchburg, has not been seen since September and is feared dead. His mother, Elsa Oliver, faces charges including reckless endangerment of a child. Her boyfriend, Alberto Sierra, faces assault and battery on a child among other charges. Both have pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Cheryl Riddle told Judge Martha Guzman during a sidebar at a court hearing in the case Tuesday that records from the state's child welfare agency showed a pattern of neglect and abuse of Jeremiah and his siblings.

CLEARWATER -- A jury found a man and woman accused of beating a disabled man on video for money guilty on Thursday.

 After two hours of deliberating, the jury found 61-year-old John Williams and 27-year-old Zuzu Vargo guilty of aggravated abuse of a disabled person.

 The jury was shown the 10 minute video posted on on Wednesday showing Vargo punching and kicking a shirtless man lying on the floor.

(CNN) —A judge Thursday preliminarily seized Aaron Hernandez's Massachusetts home while a wrongful death lawsuit against the former NFL star is pending.

 Bristol Superior Court Judge Richard Moses made the ruling during a hearing on Hernandez's finances in connection with a lawsuit filed by the family of Odin Lloyd, whom the ex-New England Patriot tight end is accused of killing, according to court documents.

FBI to seize school hard drives in Kendrick Johnson probe, source says

(CNN) -- The FBI was expected Thursday to seize the original hard drives from the surveillance system at Lowndes High School, where 17-year-old Kendrick Johnson was found dead in a rolled-up gym mat earlier this year, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation surrounding the hard drives.

U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia Michael Moore issued a grand jury subpoena to seize the hard drives, the source said.

It is almost three years since 24-year-old Rebecca Coriam mysteriously disappeared from the Disney Wonder cruise liner she was working on as it sailed off the coast of Mexico.

Ann, 54, and Mike, 60, have been fighting to get laws governing cruise ships changed since their daughter vanished on March 22, 2011, but now they have set up an international helpline aiming to unite others going through the same nightmare.

Casey Anthony will not have to pay most of the thousands of dollars of debts listed in her bankruptcy case, a judge ruled Tuesday.

The ruling from U.S. Bankruptcy Judge K. Rodney May does not close Anthony's case and does not determine how much money, if any, will be paid to her creditors.

Anthony filed for bankruptcy in January, listing more than $792,000 in debts. She owed the most money to Jose Baez, the defense attorney who represented her during her high-profile murder trial.

INDIO — Jurors recommended a death sentence today for a “serial baby killer” who inflicted fatal injuries on his 10-week-old daughter in Desert Hot Springs less than two years after another of his children met a similar fate.

Jason Michael Hann, 38, killed his daughter Montana in February 2001 and put her in a container that was later found in an Arkansas storage unit.

Ciara N. DeRyke, 26, is charged with obstructing a peace officer, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. DeRyke's daughter, Willow Long, was found dead by volunteer searchers south of Watson on Sept. 9. Judge Sherri Tungate set pretrial for 10 a.m. Jan. 16 and jury selection for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 10.

Attorneys for a former Ohio doctor who pleaded guilty to killing a pregnant mother acknowledge he recorded himself having sex with the incapacitated woman and later moved her body but say she caused her own accidental overdose.

The attorneys argue Ali Salim should be granted leniency at sentencing Friday in central Ohio's Delaware County. They said in a court filing Thursday that Salim accepts responsibility for his actions and the court should consider his previous background as a doctor in good standing with no criminal history.

Woman who manipulated 10-year-old to kill his father gets life without parole

DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Defiance County Judge Joseph Schmenk handed down the highest sentence possible in the case of Judith Hawkey, life without the possibility or parole.

In 2003, Hawkey's step-son, Corey Breninger shot and killed his father Robert Breninger. At the time, it was ruled an accident.

The son revealed years later to a teacher after Hawkey had collected hundreds of thousands in life insurance from Robert. He said Hawkey had manipulated him to pull the trigger, and then lie about what happened.

Corey, now 20, addressed Hawkey in court.

"The pain you have put me through should send you straight to hell," said Corey Breninger.

FITCHBURG — Pausing Thursday morning at a memorial on Kimball Street to missing 5-year-old Jeremiah Oliver, Amador Santiago said he fears the worst.

"I hope he is with a relative," he said. "I don't want to hear the little kid is dead."

Mr. Santiago was with his miniature dacshund Brownie at the memorial — set up across the street from 276 Kimball St., where Oliver lived. He said he and the dog often go for walks on Kimball Street and Jeremiah would come out and play with the dog.

"He was very friendly," he said. "He would meet us on the sidewalk and play with Brownie."

Police have failed to confirm whether a body found in a church cemetery is that of missing teenager Jayden Parkinson.

Post-mortem tests on the body, found in a newly-disturbed grave on Wednesday, failed to find the cause of death.

The body, believed by police to be that of Jayden, 17, who was last seen on 3 December, was discovered at All Saints' Church in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said a Home Office pathologist found the cause of death was "inconclusive".

MILWAUKEE -- 30-year-old Lamar Cone appeared in court to enter a plea of not guilty. Cone is facing charged related to kidnapping, beating and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old Milwaukee girl.

According to the criminal complaint, the 13-year-old was walking to the library located at N. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. and Locust St. on November 25th. The complaint says the girl was headed there after being suspended. The victim says as she was walking to the library Cone and his girlfriend known as Cashmere stopped and offered her a ride.
