The family resides in Vietnam and traveled to the United States to obtain treatment for their 4 year-old Autistic daughter Chieu “Kristin” Firth.

Sanford cops a problem for prosecutors in Zimmerman case, experts say

It was a strange development in a case that has seen more than its share: Chris Serino, the lead Sanford police investigator in the Trayvon Martin shooting, hired famed Casey Anthony defense attorney Jose Baez to represent him at upcoming depositions in the case.

It's unclear what prompted Serino to hire a private attorney — eschewing available representation by the city of Sanford, his employer.

Regarding The New George Zimmerman Defense Fund and Thank You Cards

         on .

The Miami Herald used the headline "George Zimmerman to sell autographs to pay expenses," to describe the policy of the New George Zimmerman Defense Fund of sending signed Thank You Cards to individuals who donate.

For those who look for opportunities to criticize George, we understand that the idea of sending Thank You Cards might be seen as an attempt to sell signatures to gain donations. To those who wish to criticize and ridicule, go right ahead. However, that is not George's intent. It is presumptuous to assume that George's signature is a valuable enough commodity to be an effective motivator for people to donate. Rather, what we hope motivates people is the ever increasingly undeniable conclusion that George is simply not guilty. He only did what he had to do to protect himself from an attack by an unknown assailant; a young man who broke George's nose, bloodying it, and then got him on the ground and smashed his head into concrete, causing more injury.

George has expressed a desire since the beginning of this ordeal to thank those who have supported him, not just financially, but also those who have offered their kind words and prayers, and he has wanted to send Thank You Cards for some time. The defense team has had reservations about allowing it -- partly because we anticipated it would be interpreted in this way. Now the time has come to stop acting like George is the person portrayed by those who have manipulated the facts and the media, and to be true to the innocent person George is.

If the publicity surrounding the Thank You Cards raises people's awareness of George's need for the funds to hire experts and investigators to present the truth at his trial, and results in more donations to the Defense Fund, the support is welcome. George Zimmerman is innocent and should never have been charged, and there is nothing inappropriate about raising money to fund the defense of an innocent man.

George has been the target of a coordinated public relations attack designed to create the false impression that George shot Trayvon Martin because of racial bias, instead of self-defense -- a public relations campaign perpetrated with the intent to manipulate the media and prejudice the citizens of this country against George through misinformation and emotional appeals. If a voice is raised with concern over profiteering, it should be tempered by two premises. Firstly, George and his family have been devastated by this event and left broke and displaced from their homes. That is a tragedy that should not be visited upon anyone who has yet to be convicted of a crime. It is the ultimate injustice when it is perpetrated on an innocent man.

Secondly, if profiteering is a concern, that analysis should begin with those who crafted the misinformation blitz and racially charged rhetoric, shouted with reckless disregard for the truth, the result of which has been significant financial gain, not ruin. We speak not of the Martin family, who have suffered the tragedy of losing a son; we speak of the family's handlers and attorneys.

Exclusive :Breast Cancer Awareness By Mandy McGlothlin

By: Mandy McGlothlin ( National Freelance Reporter )

October was Breast Cancer Awareness month (NBCAM). NBCAM is also an opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for early detection and promote mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer.

In 1993 Evelyn Lauder, Vice President of Estee Lauder Companies founded The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and established the pink ribbon as its symbol. The pink ribbon was first handed out to participants in New York City race for breast cancer survivors and used to symbolize breast cancer.

While the chances of women developing breast cancer is 1 in 8, due to early detection and advanced treatment, there are more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

Since I interviewed mothers of children with different disabilities or issues I decided to interview a daughter watching her mother go through the difficulties of breast cancer and hope to help people realize they're not alone and what people go through daily to survive.

Although my interview was with someone very well-known she wished to remain anonymous. But as long as I was able to get honest answers I don’t care who it comes from. I want people to always feel they can be honest with me and if it helps others I don’t care how I get it.

How old was your mother when she found out she had breast cancer?

In 1995 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was 68.

How did she find out? Did she have any symptoms or are there any symptoms?

She had cysts that she had to have removed. While having this operation performed, the surgeon hit a bleeder and stopped the operation because it became dangerous for my mother. She was supposed to go back and get the remaining cysts removed and she didn't. Even though she was a very gutsy lady, I believe my mother secretly feared she would die on the operating table. This was not the first time something like this happened to her in her lifetime. So....she let it go, brushed it off until the cyst began to abscess from the inside out. Then she decided to go to the doctor. By then it was too late. She had full blown breast cancer.

What were the first steps the doctors took?

They removed her right breast. They nearly lost her on the operating table during this procedure. (She told me that she wished she had died then.)

How did your mother and the rest of the family take the news emotionally?

Like anyone sentenced with death would. Basically, they gave her a year WITH chemotherapy and radiation. On the outside my mother handled it very well. I don't know what she felt inside. As for me - devastation. My mother was my best friend and always will be.

Do you have any advice for others that may be dealing with what’s to come?

You know….. I don't. It’s hard.

What were some of the toughest times for your mother?

Again, emotionally I don't know where she is concerned, but..... I can tell you physically it was rough. She was so nauseous all the time. Lost weight - just wasted away before my eyes. She lived 9 months after the diagnosis. She was in the middle of radiation treatments and told me she felt like she was being cooked.

And for you?

From the moment I found out. Even today in 2012 - 17 years after her death, I am still crying.

Do you do anything now because of what your mother and many others do to have early prevention?

I get yearly mammograms. I am considered high-risk so I had a breast cancer gene test, or BRCA (say "BRAH-kuh") gene test. This test can help people find out if they have inherited a gene change. This gene change can make them much more likely to get breast cancer - and for women, ovarian cancer also. I was concerned with the chance I might pass this on to either my son or my daughter. I do not have this particular gene - but that isn't a guarantee that I won't get those particular cancers. Nor should anyone view it as that. Early detection is the best bet.

Do you recommend any websites or places to help others be more informed or help deal with this daily?

For information - the internet. To deal with it - as far as dealing with a loved one having breast cancer or any kind of cancer for that matter, I honestly can't offer any advice; everyone is different. It has been 17 years since my mother passed away. We have come a long way and medicine continues to make great advances. So I believe there are better options today to deal with this disease and better odds of surviving it.

Why did you prefer to remain anonymous?

I just do. If you think about it, there are many people in the world who could have written this same scenario just like I have. Cancer isn't a disease that affects a select group of people - I may well be your sister, daughter, mother, best friend, grandparent, cousin, aunt...... anyone. No one is exempt.

After the interview it made a lot of sense why she wanted to remain anonymous. It doesn’t matter who you are, what you have or how people see you; cancer can affect anyone.

For more information about breast cancer or how to find out how you can help go to NBCAM.org

Suspect in baby, grandma deaths had casino losses

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. (AP) — A young man mired in gambling debts told police he killed a 10-month-old girl and her grandmother during a botched kidnapping after losing at least $15,000 at a casino near his office.

Raghunandan Yandamuri, 26, knew the family from his apartment complex. Like him, the baby's parents were young technology professionals from India. He had gone to the wife's birthday party, met the visiting grandmother and — tellingly — used family nicknames in a ransom note demanding $50,000.

The New George Zimmerman Defense Fund

on 28 November 2012
.In December, the George Zimmerman Defense fund will be moving into the hands of a new fund manager.

The original fund was formed by George Zimmerman himself -- before his arrest, in the initial days of the media frenzy started by Ben Crump, Natalie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the PR firm hired to fan the flames, Julison Communications (the story of this PR blitz is profiled on the ParksCrump.com website). While most media outlets perpetuated the narrative repeated constantly by Ben Crump who said that what George Zimmerman did was to ". . profile, pursue, and confront Trayvon Martin, and then kill Trayvon Martin in cold blood, even though he was unarmed; (see video of Crump on Piers Morgan Tonight)" there was notable exception, Sean Hannity, who questioned the narrative pushed by Parks and Crump -- see Hannity questioning Parks on his show, asking if there has been a rush to judgement -- and Mr. Hannity urged his viewers not to jump to conclusions about George Zimmerman. As a result, thousands donated to George via TheRealGeorgeZimmerman.com website.
