Florida's Dozier School For Boys: A True Horror Story

Monday, 10/15/12 6:47pm
Greg Allen
Over the past decade, hundreds of men have come forward to tell gruesome stories of abuse and terrible beatings they suffered at Florida's Dozier School for Boys, a notorious, state-run institution that closed last year after more than a century.

Known as the "White House Boys," these 300-some men were sent as boys to the reform school in the small panhandle town of Mariana in the 1950s and 1960s. They have joined together over the years to tell their stories of the violence administered in a small building on the school's grounds they knew as the White House.

Some 81 boys are known to have died there, but where their remains are buried is a mystery that researchers are now trying to solve.

One of the theories police wanted to explore was the possibility he may have been accidentally buried by a digger moving earth and rubble in the field next to where the toddler was last seen.

“Just have faith Daddy. I promise it’ll work out.”

“Just have faith” — it was the expression she was known for, and it was the last thing he would ever hear from her.

A little more than 12 hours later, the then 19-year-old — the girl who was constantly smiling, who loved to joke, who dreamed of becoming a doctor — was found dead in her apartment, the victim of a homicide.

Suspect's family feared him

Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012
By Kim Minugh and Stephen Magagnini
The family's troubles were laid out in family court documents dating back to August 2011.

In a fit of rage last summer, his father alleged, Grigoriy Bukhantsov hurled furniture, struck his father with such force that he fell, and threatened to kill every member of his family – "like Soltys did."

It was Aug. 9, 2011, according to allegations documented in family court files, when Bukhantsov reportedly made the haunting reference to Sacramento serial killer Nikolay Soltys, who in 2001 stabbed six family members to death, including his pregnant wife and 3-year-old son.

Fourteen months after the statements were documented, Sacramento County sheriff's detectives say Bukhantsov followed through on his threats, leaving his sister-in-law and young niece and nephew dead in a bloody attack in a Rancho Cordova duplex Tuesday afternoon.

Early Wednesday, deputies arrested Bukhantsov on suspicion of three counts of murder. In the following hours, a troubling picture emerged of the 19-year-old's past.

Brother-in-law held in murder of Calif. mom, children

By ANNE GONZALES — The Sacramento Bee
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The teenage brother-in-law of a California mother killed along with her two toddlers has been arrested on three counts of murder, Sacramento sheriff's deputies said Wednesday.

All three of the victims - a woman in her 20s and her son, 2, and daughter, 3 - had injuries "consistent with sharp force trauma," said Sgt. Jason Ramos. They were found dead in their Rancho Cordova, Calif., duplex about 3:30 p.m. by the husband of the woman who is also the father of the children.

It is his brother, Grigoriy Bukhantsov, 19, who is a suspect in the brutal killings.

"We can't talk about the motive for sure, but we have found there were strained relationships in the family," Ramos said. "What the catalyst may have been for yesterday's horror, we don't know yet."

Law enforcement has not released the identities of the dead, but public records indicate Denis and Alina Bukhantsov lived at the home.

McCanns get ruling on alleged 'harassment'

Thursday, October 25, 2012
Leicester Mercury
The parents of Madeleine McCann have successfully argued for a speedy hearing in their dispute with a retired lawyer they say has mounted a libelous harassment campaign against them.

Gerry and Kate McCann, of Rothley, are asking the High Court to jail 65-year-old Tony Bennett, who they say has persisted in spreading false allegations against them, both on-line and in print.

Mr Bennett, of Harlow, Essex, promised in November 2009 to stop making allegations that the couple were guilty of, or suspected of, causing their daughter's death, disposing of her body and trying to cover up what they had done.

Mr and Mrs McCann's lawyers claim he has since breached that formal undertaking more than 150 times and are seeking his imprisonment, or other punishment, for alleged contempt of court.
