Stephanie Sloop — accused of killing her 4-year-old son, Ethan Stacy — agreed Monday to continue her preliminary hearing until later this year while attorneys contest the admissibility of certain evidence.
Her husband and co-defendant, Nathan Sloop, had a similar hearing on Friday.
A status hearing for the Layton couple is set for June 27 in 2nd District Court.
The Sloop are each charged with aggravated murder, which carries the potential for the death penalty, as well as child abuse and other felonies in connection with the May 2010 death of the boy.
Read more at www.sltrib.comCharging documents say the couple engaged in multiple acts of “severe abuse” between April 29 and May 8, which led to Ethan’s death, including “beatings, burning, drugging, isolating, malnourishing, leaving the child alone and unattended while suffering, and refusing to seek vital life-sustaining medical attention.”

Dunn went on to say she was "very disappointed" with law enforcement for not naming other persons of interest in the case. Law enforcement has said they're looking at several persons of interest but have not named them. The only person they've identified as a suspect is Adkins.
After saying that they hadn't spoke for some time, Billie Dunn now says she's in regular contact with Adkins. She described their current relationship as "friendly."
Dunn also took issue with a few of the points released in police affidavits. She said the notion that she hosted a New Year's Eve party following Hailey's disappearance is ridiculous. Dunn also said she stopped at an ATM in Scurry County on the evening of December 27 because she was short on cash, not to buy illegal narcotics.

Indianapolis —
An Indianapolis mother says a prayer of protection for her baby's safe return. Loved ones and supporters joined Sandra Young for a gathering of hope outside the Statehouse Saturday afternoon.
Jacob was eight-months-old when Young says the boy's father, Maurice Young, took him. The two were last spotted at a homeless shelter in Atlanta.
Indiana authorities issued an Amber Alert for Jacob about a month after his disappearance. The FBI is now involved in the search.
An Australian man who cycled around Europe looking for his missing son has returned home to Sydney with the six-year-old boy.
Ken Thompson quit his job as deputy New South Wales fire chief and cycled across Europe looking for his son Andrew.
The boy was taken out of the country at the age of three by his mother during a custody dispute.
Mr Thompson has called on the Federal Government to overhaul child abduction laws and make it a crime to take a child out of the country without permission.
"Now it's not about finding a way to punish a parent who's taken a child, it's about finding a way to enable the authorities to help you find the child," he said.

An hour before the car many believed would contain the body of her 4-year-old boy was pulled from a canal, Tabitha Cardenas appeared on CNN’s “Nancy Grace Show.”
Cardenas touched on a lot of topics.
• On Juliani Cardenas’ birth father, who she says lives in Texas: “I haven’t spoken to him at all. His sister had gotten a hold of me through Facebook. All she says is she’ll be praying for me. I don’t know if (the father) knows anything that is going on. I never talk to him. And he’s never been there for Juliani, either.”
• On the possibility he fled to Mexico, where she said earlier this week he had relatives: “That’s a possibility. I’ve been telling police … the FBI … they need to keep people at all the borders and check every car.”
• On Jose Rodriguez: “He got fired from his job because he was going to get in a fight with one of the older … I don’t know if he’s a boss … but he was going to get in a fight with somebody at work.”
• On communications with Rodriguez’s mother: “I’ve talked a lot to his mom. She has called me crying. She’s hoping Jose isn’t in the car, too.”
• On Rodriguez being the father of her baby due in a few weeks: “He spent like $200 (on her) already. Bought her Christmas presents. That’s why I was puzzled as to why he did this.”
• On Rodriguez’s whereabouts: “(He) might have dumped his car and somebody is helping him. Somebody picked him up. Who would do that? I’m thinking it must have been a family member because if you’re just somebody’s friend, why would you go to such great lengths to help him. I’m praying he’s still alive.”

A news conference is planned for Tuesday afternoon in Morenci regarding three young brothers, who went missing in November.
The Morenci Police Department plans to update the status of the investigation and “a shift in the investigative focus,” according to the release.
Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton — ages 9, 7 and 5 — have been missing since Thanksgiving, when the two older brothers were last seen in the backyard of their father’s home. John Skelton, their father, has been charged with parental kidnapping.
John Skelton has said he gave his sons to an organization, but has not released the name. Skelton, police have said, attempted suicide in his home the day after Thanksgiving.
Morenci Police Chief Larry Weeks could not immediately be reached for comment today.
A spokeswoman for the family is also expected to speak.
Morenci Mayor Keith Pennington said he’ll speak at the news conference about the reward fund set up for information that leads to the safe recovery, return and information leading to prosecution of those responsible.
Read more at www.freep.comHe told the Free Press today that, as of the weekend, he doesn’t believe has yet accessed the fund, which contains $23,000.
BANGOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Locked in a jail cell in Paw Paw, Junior Lee Beebe told his family a different story -- that he didn't kill Amy Henslee, relatives told 24 Hour News 8 on Sunday.
Beebe's family said Junior shot and killed Tonya Howarth to save his own life.
Even from the beginning, the story didn't make sense to Beebe's relatives.
"I couldn't imagine him having any problem with Amy," said Beebe's sister, Rebecca Nickerson, on Thursday night. "Amy's too sweet of a person. She's too much of a good, kind-hearted person for anybody to ever be angry at her."
Family members visited Junior in jail on Saturday and he explained to them what happened in the Van Buren County woods Monday morning.
The first shots were fired by Howarth, Beebe's girlfriend, in a jealous rage after catching Junior and Henslee having an affair in a camper.
It started Monday morning, when Beebe left his mother's house; where he lived and had spent the night with Howarth, the family member said.
Beebe then went to pick up Henslee in his black pick-up truck -- the one witnesses reported seeing.
Henslee and Beebe were intimate in that camper in the woods, according to Beebe, when his mother dropped Howarth off at the property where the camper sat. Howarth started looking for Beebe after seeing his truck, and found him with Henslee.
That's when Beebe claims Howarth picked up a shotgun already in the camper and shot Henslee to death. Beebe then wrestled the gun away from Howarth and shot her, his family said. Next, he got scared and buried the bodies -- where they were found Thursday night.

HICKORY Three months have passed since police declared Zahra Baker dead, her body in pieces - yet no one has been charged in the 10-year-old's death.
The delay worries those who want someone held accountable.
They fear the lack of criminal charges signals problems with the case. And the bizarre circumstances surrounding the girl's death have led some friends, family, even area prosecutors to wonder: Can there be justice for Zahra?
"Everyone is frustrated," says Hickory Mayor Rudy Wright, who has plastered a large photo of Zahra on his business along Fairgrove Church Road. "This little girl struck a chord with all of us. ... People want somebody charged."

Henslee and Tonya Howarth were found shot to death and buried behind a trailer this week.
Henslee's husband's cousin and Howarth's boyfriend, Junior Lee Beebe, is charged with their murders.
Family held a press conference Saturday where they told Kalamazoo newspapers that they want to see the rules for missing person searches, changed.
They say the fact that police could not start looking for Amy Henslee until 48 hours after she went missing is "ridiculous."
Police are still investigating the events of Monday.
They think Henslee voluntarily left her home with Beebe but police do not know why.
They believe Howarth then met up with them in the wooded, rural area where the women's bodies were found late Thursday.
Funeral arrangements for both women are still pending.
Meantime both families have memorial funds set up at Chemical Bank in Hartford.
You can help out by giving to the Henslee Memorial Fund and the Tonya Howarth Memorial Fund. There is also an online account set up for anyone not in the immediate area for Howarth's family. Just click here.

Accused abductor Jeffrey Easley said in a letter from jail that 12-year-old Brittany Smith was his willing cross-country travelling companion.
"I did not kidnapp her or take her aginest her will," Easley, 32, wrote in a letter postmarked Thursday from the Western Virginia Regional Jail. "She made me promise not to leave her."
The one-page letter, hand-printed on lined notebook paper, contains misspellings and lacks punctuation. It doesn't mention the slaying of Tina Smith, 41, who was Easley's girlfriend and Brittany's mother.
"I want the truth out there not all these storys," Easley writes.
It continues: "I made a promise to britt in front of her mom back in july

HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A man accused of killing two women in Van Buren County has confessed he killed at least one of them, family members told 24 Hour News 8.
Junior Lee (or BJ) Beebe Jr., 34, was arrested Thursday in connection with the murders of Amy Henslee and Tonya Howarth, investigators said. The women's bodies were found Thursday afternoon. Investigators had been searching for Henslee, a mother of two, since she disappeared Monday morning.
Family members say Beebe and Howarth had been dating on and off for five years. The couple had issues, the family said, but none that would have tipped them off he would hurt Howarth.
"Not in a million years," said Rebecca Nickerson, Beebe's sister. "I couldn't begin to understand it."
Also perplexing to Nickerson is why Henslee was involved. Sheriff's department investigators wouldn't comment on a motive in a news conference Friday morning.
"I couldn't imagine him having any problem with Amy," Nickerson said. "Amy's too sweet of a person. She's too much of a good, kind-hearted person for anybody to ever be angry at her."

MONROE, NC (WBTV) – A reward in the amount of $25,000 is being added to an existing $10,000 reward for information about a Monroe teen who went missing during the Christmas holidays.
Union Academy honor student Phylicia Barnes, now 17, disappeared while visiting relatives in Baltimore, Maryland, and was last seen on Dec. 28.
The announcement about the reward was made Friday morning at her school when a vigil was also held. The money will come from the Annual Ultimate Charity Auction hosted by the Union Academy Foundation.
The fund was created to help students at Union Academy with financial needs. This fund was named the Phil Hargett Memorial Fund in memory of the late City of Monroe Councilman, grandfather of Union Academy students and community leader. More than $25,000 was raised during the auction last November.
According to a statement released Friday morning, the $25,000 reward will be given to the person or divided among individuals whom authorities identify as a legitimate source of information about Barnes. The Phil Hargett Memorial and Union Academy Foundation will disperse the funds after proper notice from authorities and Barnes' safe return. This offer is in effect for ninety days.
In addition to news about the reward offered, classmates and administrators at Union Academy took part in a prayer vigil Friday morning for Barnes. Barnes' mother, Janice Sallis, attended the vigil. Recently, she moved from Monroe to Atlanta to stay with family.
Outside the Union Academy campus, purple ribbons --symbolizing Phylicia's favorite color-- are tied to trees surrounding the parking lot. A boulder covered in purple paint read, "Phylicia we love you."
Earlier this week, we learned the last person who saw Barnes before she disappeared has now hired an attorney. The man, who WBTV.com is not identifying by name because no charges have been filed, is the ex-boyfriend of Deena Barnes, Phylicia's half-sister.
"That's ironic because we don't have attorneys," Phylicia's father, Russell said by phone, "because we don't have anything to hide so that's a mystery to us in itself."Read more at www.wistv.com

In the weeks following the disappearance of Kayleah Wilson, police were in daily, sometimes twice-daily, contact with Robert Montoya.
Montoya, now 19, made his second appearance Friday in Weld District Court for a pre-trial motions hearings, where attorneys have presented evidence to be considered at trial.Read more at www.greeleytribune.com
Montoya is charged with sexually assaulting 12-year-old Kayleah from October 2009, when he was 17, to March 2010, during which time he'd turned 18. Though evidence from her mother and brother suggest they knew of only one sexual encounter in the fall, prosecutors believe there was much more. Montoya, himself, told police of several sexual encounters – admissions defense attorneys are hoping Weld District Court Judge Marcelo Kopcow will throw out.
Prosecutors didn't get through all of their witnesses Friday, and they have continued the matter for a second time to later this month, at which time they should argue their cases.
Kayleah's body was found May 19, 2010 in an irrigation ditch in southwest Greeley. Montoya was arrested that very day, and though he's never been named as a suspect — nor has anyone else —he is considered a person of interest in Kayleah's death.
Farmington, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Sloop's preliminary hearings will be delayed indefinitely ABC4 news learned on Friday. "There are two new sources of information, and we'd like to present it at open trial along with the preliminary hearing," Prosecutor David Cole told the media after the hearing and continued, " defense would like time to review this evidence and suppress it. "
Nathan Sloop agreed to delay his preliminary hearing, and from the look at the calender it could be delayed at least six months. In court, Cole told a judge that the State had uncovered new evidence, specifically two new pieces of information however he wouldn't elaborate. The defenses concern over this evidence was evident, as they requested this delay.Read more at www.abc4.com
Defense attorneys though cautioned the media to not judge before the evidence is finally heard, and said that it was premature for the public and the media to judge Nathan Sloop.
Nathan and his wife, Stephanie Sloop, are accused of killing Stephanie's 4-year-old son Ethan Stacy. Prosecutors believe the child was "beaten, malnourished, drugged" before dying.
The sloops could face the death penalty if the state decides to pursue that option. Nathan Sloop is scheduled to be back in court June 27th.

PATTERSON, Calif. (AP) - Authorities pulled a kidnapping suspect's car from the bottom of a frigid Central California canal Friday, but the bodies of the suspect and the missing 4-year-old boy were not inside.
The badly damaged Toyota Corolla recovered from the Delta-Mendota canal along with two other vehicles just before 6 p.m. was empty, Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson said.
The car belongs to 27-year-old Jose Rodriguez, who is suspected of kidnapping Juliani Cardenas, his ex-girlfriend's son, from the arms of the boy's grandmother in Patterson on Jan. 18. Juliani's mother, Tabitha Cardenas, reportedly ended her relationship with Rodriguez several months ago, and he is the father of her unborn child.
Christianson said authorities will continue to search the canal for the bodies in the event they floated downstream. He said there is no evidence that Rodriguez fled the scene after dumping the car.
"He is not sophisticated enough, doesn't have the infrastructure, doesn't have the financing and doesn't have the support to pull off that type of abduction," the sheriff said.

MONROE Phylicia Barnes' friends and family marked the one-month anniversary of her disappearance Friday with a prayer vigil and an offer of $25,000 for information that helps solve the case.
The reward offer was announced during a morning news conference at Union Academy, the Monroe charter school where Phylicia is a senior. The money would come from a school foundation designed to help students in need.
Barnes, now 17, was last seen Dec. 28 at the northwest Baltimore apartment of her stepsister Deena Barnes, who Phylicia was visiting over the holidays. Her stepsister's ex-boyfriend told investigators the Monroe teen said she was leaving to get something to eat.
Numerous searches by Baltimore, Maryland state and federal authorities have turned up nothing.
