Indictments handed down in Wythe County baby in cave case

Twila Jean Meadows, 60, and daughter Ashley April Meadows, 21, are accused in connection with the death of Ashley Meadows' newborn daughter, allegedly born Jan. 16 in the family's Wythe County home.

A Wythe County mother and daughter have been indicted by a grand jury in the death of the daughter's newborn baby girl.

Twila Jean Meadows, 60, is charged with felony counts of child endangerment and concealing a dead body, while her daughter, Ashley April Meadows, 21, is charged with one count of felony child endangerment, Wythe County Commonwealth's Attorney Gerald Mabe said.

Each of the charges carries up to 5 years in the prison and a maximum $2,500 fine, Mabe said.
