VIDEO REPORT: Letters To Casey Released
Casey Anthony receives letters from people all over the country who've never met her, but have strong opinions about her and the case. Casey is locked up in the Orange County jail, awaiting trial for allegedly killing her daughter Caylee.
It’s not just men who wrote Casey, women are praying for her and sending her money.
WFTV found letters her father George wrote to her, too. In one of them, from January 2010, he says he's come to accept that she doesn't want to see him. He says he doesn't understand, but says it's her defense team that's telling her not to let them visit. He says he is empty.
George also wrote in another letter that he loves her “no matter what,” with “no matter what” underlined.
Most of the documents in the 5,365 pages release Friday are letters that people have written to Casey Anthony at the Orange County jail. The letters have come from all over the country and from Central Floridians. They're letters that have been sent to her starting in 2008, when Caylee disappeared, right on through this year.
Men have sent her their pictures. A journalist offered to "tell her story.” One stranger sent her a $300 cashier's check. Others have suggested she find religion.
So far, most of the letters WFTV has read have been supportive of her, but one pen pal told her that she should marry Joran van der Sloot, because they make a good husband and wife, two compulsive liars and killers. Someone else asked why she killed her daughter Caylee and wanted her to write back and explain.
Meanwhile, the defense has scheduled depositions for two new witnesses. A woman who helped search near the area where Caylee Anthony’s remains were found will be deposed in August.
In July, a second witness will give his deposition and Casey's lawyers also plan to question experts at the Oakridge National Lab in Tennessee.
